About Craig Bertram Smith

South African born Craig Bertram Smith grew up in Johannesburg, where fishing with his father and brother — particularly their annual Wild Coast trips — sparked a lifelong love of the ocean and its creatures. From a young age, Craig spent hours sketching fish and marine life, a talent his teachers quickly recognised and encouraged. After completing a graphic design degree at the University of Johannesburg, Craig spent years honing his craft before taking the leap to become a full-time artist in 2010 — and he's never looked back.

His passion lies in portraying the natural world in all its beauty and mystery, studying every creature he paints to capture their character, movement, and anatomy with scientific accuracy. His work has earned international recognition, appearing in leading fishing publications, on IGFA covers, in hotels and boardrooms, and has been commissioned by collectors around the world. Craig's art also forms the foundation of the popular CBS clothing range — high-quality, fully dye-sublimated fishing apparel featuring his most iconic works.
